Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How can I create a new target to connect to? Simply connect to a Target ID of your choice, adding a password and a Tracking Code – no registration required. If the Target ID has not already been taken, it will be yours.
I forgot my Target PWD; can I reset it or have it sent to me? Unfortunately, no. Since no registration or email address is required, tracking details are not linked to any user account, so when they are lost, they are lost forever.
Just create another Target ID with a new password.
Do I need to create/use a target if I just want to send a position, without sharing my live location? No, you don't have to use a target; you can just define fixed positions from the Web Tracking Console (WTC) and then share the updated URL of that webpage.
You can also use the Android & Wear OS apps to send a fixed position or POI (long-press on any item in the Target Management System screen to be able to send a URL with its coordinates).
However, hosting POIs under a target, with its Target ID & Tracking Code, is somewhat more elegant – if not simply more practical, especially when dealing with many POIs. Also, bear in mind that a POI can also embed a note and a picture.
And of course you are not forced to broadcast your live location once connected to a target.
How do I add a Point Of Interest to my connected target? - In the Web Tracking Console (WTC): after you connect to a target (from the Tracking tab), click on Add POI in the expanded Connected target accordion panel.
- In the Android & Wear OS apps : after you connect to a target, you can create a POI from the Map view, by clicking the Create POI button on the right-hand side panel, or from the Target Management System screen, by long-pressing a fixed position or another target's POI and assigning it to your connected target.
What's a Public Target? It's a target that is available for everyone to track. Public Targets are promoted in-app (in Extras, or when adding a target from the Target Management System screen) as well as in the Web Tracking Console (in the dedicated tab), and are also listed at lockon.me/publictargets.
Public Targets are all voluntarily submitted by users (to PT@lockonme.com).
Can LockOnMe still broadcast my live location when the app is no longer displayed on screen? Yes; when you press the switch button to start the broadcast, it will continue broadcasting until you press the button to switch it off. So, it can broadcast in the background, even when the screen is turned off, and you can choose the background broadcast interval to save on battery (the interval is always 3 sec when the app is displayed on screen).
LockOnMe remains visible in the status bar when broadcasting the location in the background.
Can others view my position without the mobile apps? Yes; you can share your target details (for viewing your live location and/or Points Of Interest) by email, SMS or WhatsApp from the Connected Target screen in the Android & Wear OS apps, which will generate a dynamic URL to the Web Tracking Console (WTC). You can also share your fixed position from the Position Service screen.
Alternatively, you can go to the WTC yourself, connect to or track your own target, and then share the updated URL you get in your web browser's address bar. The advantage of this method is that you will be able to choose the map style, which will be reflected in the URL, like so: lockon.me/?map=Decimal&track=(MeganB/treadstone)open new window symbol
I generated an audible DTMF signal on the device I was using for calling; why couldn't my recipient hear it? The sound which a smartphone generates (be it music, etc.) cannot be simultaneously transmitted over a call – either use a second device to call, or a radio transceiver (e.g. walkie-talkie). And same issue at the other end of the line; the sound received over the phone, whether diffused on loudspeaker or not, cannot be processed at the same time; use another device to process the signal, or use a radio.
Can someone else use my key for the embedded web map widget? When you are issued a key, you will be given the option of defining HTTP referrers, effectively restricting the key to only work with specific web domains.
How can I delete my target or clear my live location? This page describes the quick steps you can take to achieve that.
